FSU Table Tennis

Our Mission

As a registered student organization of Ferris State University we try to provide an activity to competitive students outside the classroom and provide them instruction to help them improve their games. We also strive to be difference makers outside the club and into the Ferris community by hosting events to help raise money for the Red Cross and other such activities to enhance student life here at Ferris.

The Ferris State University Table Tennis Club intends to meet the needs of students and non students who wish to play either competitively or just for fun. All skill levels are encouraged to join.

Our History

Established in the Fall of 2006 the Ferris State University Table Tennis club has provided students with a chance to play with the best of their peers while sending student athletes on to tournaments around the Midwest region

Common Questions???

1. Who are we?

Established in the Fall of 2006, the Ferris State University Table Tennis club has provided students with a chance to play with the best of their peers while sending student athletes on to tournaments around the Midwest region.

2. What do we do?

As a registered student organization of Ferris State University we try to provide an activity to competitive students outside the classroom and provide them instruction to help them improve their games. We host a semiannual tournament as well as travel to other competitive events, seeking competitive experience from all skill levels and age groups. We also strive to help the Ferris community by hosting events to help raise money for the Red Cross and other such activities to enhance student life here at Ferris.

3. What are we looking for?

We are currently looking for new players for the 2009 - 2010 school semesters. From the experts to neophytes, The Ferris State University Table Tennis Club intends to meet the needs of students who wish to play either competitively or just for fun. All skill levels are encouraged to join. The Table Tennis club offers enormous amounts of opportunity, such as traveling to other University's for collegiate tournaments.

4. What is this “Rated League” you speak of?

Rated League is an intrinsic part of our program here at Ferris. Every Thursday, students will meet in the University Recreation Center at 8 pm. A round-robin competition will be held against players of similar skill and rank. Success in these games gives every player on the team a ranking, which we will use to assist us in picking players for tournament selection. Rated League is an extremely important component in terms of bonding as a team and developing and sharpening your table tennis skills.

Notes: This a non-sanctioned USATT event.

5. Are we using nice equipment?

This year, our club got approved to buy new tables. We will be playing with Killerspin Cyclones for the majority of our practices and tournament play, although this is not definitive for all intensive purposes. We use three-star balls for all tournaments although we practice with one-star balls. This year, we will be sporting Butterfly competitive jerseys to all of our tournaments and events. Ferris State students are expected to provide their own paddle; this is typically an investment worth making. Please consult Nathan Reilly at reillyn@ferris.edu if you are new to paddle selection and have questions.

6. So how much is all of this it?

Option 1: $40.00 by October 1 + signed contract = access to registration, hotel, and gas money from student government + T-Shirt

Option 2: $25.00 after October 1 + signed contract = access to registration, hotel and gas money from student government, but no T-Shirt

Option 3: $10.00 for rated League only, no T-Shirt

Although this may seem overwhelming, the first and second options are ideal for students who wish to compete at the collegiate level. Please contact Ryan Nolan at Nolanr1@ferris.edu if you have any questions concerning which option is best for you.
